Workshops & Events

Go Deeper Into Your Practice

Go deeper into the practice.

Yoga is more than the practice we do on the mat each morning.

Throughout the year, Ashtanga Yoga Groningen offers workshops, special practices, philosophy sessions and events designed to explore different aspects of yoga in greater depth.

Some events focus on the physical practice. Others explore breath, meditation, yoga philosophy, anatomy, mobility or the traditions that surround Ashtanga Yoga.

We also invite experienced teachers and practitioners to Groningen to share their knowledge and perspectives.

More Than the Weekly Practice

The regular practice is the foundation.

Workshops and special events give us an opportunity to slow down, ask questions, explore something in greater detail and look at the practice from another perspective.

Throughout the year, events may include:

Ashtanga Workshops

Explore specific postures, transitions, techniques and aspects of the Ashtanga method in greater detail.

Yoga Philosophy

Explore the ideas and traditions behind yoga, from the Yoga Sutras and Bhagavad Gita to meditation, ethics and the nature of practice.

Anatomy & Mobility

Understand how bodies move and how anatomy, strength, mobility and individual structure influence your practice.

Pranayama & Meditation

Explore breathing practices, concentration and meditation as integral parts of yoga practice.

Special Practices

Led practices, longer practices, themed practices and other opportunities to practice together outside the regular schedule.

Visiting Teachers

Occasionally we welcome experienced teachers and practitioners from outside Groningen to share their practice and knowledge with our community.

Workshops for Real Practitioners

A workshop isn’t about collecting more techniques.

It’s an opportunity to pay closer attention.

You might spend two hours exploring a single posture. You might investigate why a particular transition feels difficult. You might study an aspect of yoga philosophy that changes the way you understand your practice.

Or you might simply practice together, ask questions and spend some time with other people who are equally curious about yoga.

The emphasis is always on practice, understanding and experience.

For Beginners and Experienced Practitioners

Not every workshop is for every student.

Some events are designed to be accessible to anyone interested in yoga, while others assume familiarity with the Ashtanga method or an established practice.

Each event description will tell you what experience is recommended and whether any preparation is required.

If you’re unsure whether a workshop is appropriate for you, just ask.

A Place to Explore

Ashtanga Yoga is a traditional practice, but tradition doesn’t mean that we stop asking questions.

The workshops at AYG are an opportunity to investigate the practice from different angles while keeping the traditional method at the center.

Sometimes that means looking more closely at something familiar.

Sometimes it means learning something completely new.

Either way, the goal is the same:

Practice. Understand. Explore.

Visiting Teachers & Collaborations

AYG is also a place for teachers and practitioners to share their work.

If you’re an experienced yoga teacher, bodyworker or practitioner interested in offering a workshop or special event in Groningen, I’d be happy to hear from you.
